The client is a nonprofit education advocacy organization focused on advancing public education in California so that students from low-income communities have greater access to future opportunities. The work centers on shaping and supporting evidence-based education policy through advocacy, coalition engagement, and efforts to advance legislation. The organizations aim to drive systemic change by improving learning outcomes, expanding effective approaches to early literacy, and influencing policy that supports qualified educators in high-needs schools.

The client is seeking a Vice President of Finance & Operations (VPFO) to serve as a core strategic leader at the intersection of finance, operations, and people systems. Reporting to the CEO, the VPFO will act as a trusted thought partner and organizational backbone, partnering across teams to strengthen decision-making, improve operational effectiveness, and uphold strong governance. The role is expected to balance big-picture strategy with detailed execution, including work that may involve financial audit and compliance review discussions as well as employee performance conversations.

Key responsibilities will include partnering with executive leadership to develop and implement long-term financial strategy that supports sustainability and growth, and overseeing organization-wide financial planning. This includes managing budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and cash flow. The VPFO will also be expected to optimize resources, architect internal systems, and help develop teams and capabilities that enable the organization to scale its operations and support the next chapter of growth.
