Description

The client is seeking a Vice President, Development to serve as a senior strategic development leader and active participant in organizational decision-making. Working in partnership with the President and CEO and other senior leadership, the VP will oversee fundraising and development activities and help advance strategies to strengthen visibility, impact, and long-term sustainability in support of civil and human rights.

Primary responsibilities include designing and implementing forward-leaning stewardship strategies to grow support from foundations and corporations, as well as individual donors and other institutional sources. The VP will continue to sustain the organization’s approximately $18M budget by identifying, cultivating, and securing funding across institutional grants, individual giving, major donors, and corporate support, and will oversee a donor event intended to drive visibility, engagement, and revenue. This role will also work to expand and diversify the national foundation and individual donor base and pipeline while collaborating across a matrixed organization to secure resources for new initiatives.

The VP will report to the President and CEO and manage a development team of six professionals. The ideal candidate will be a strategic fundraiser able to translate complex, fast-moving advocacy work into clear narratives and compelling donor communications, and will serve as a trusted frontline fundraiser and external ambassador with major donors, foundation partners, and key stakeholders. The VP is expected to provide vision and leadership for stewardship and sustainable growth across The client and its related education-focused entity, establish and execute development priorities, elevate and maintain organizational profile, and advise senior leadership, including engagement with the boards for effective cultivation and stewardship.
