Description

The client is recruiting for a Vice President of Medical Affairs (serving as Chief Medical Officer) for a pediatric hospital. The role leads the medical affairs function for pediatric care, with responsibility for quality of medical care, patient safety, and clinical resource management, in collaboration with the chief nursing executive, and also oversees the broader pediatric service line.

The VP of Medical Affairs will be a dynamic, hands-on leader with recognized expertise in pediatrics, expected to provide clarity and direction in complex, large-scale environments. The role will guide medical strategy and execution across clinical operations and continuous improvement efforts, supporting mission-driven care and adapting to change in ways that improve outcomes and workflows.

Required qualifications include a medical degree and board certification in pediatrics or a pediatric subspecialty, as well as eligibility for licensure in Pennsylvania. The position calls for significant prior clinical leadership experience (such as CMO, CQO, associate CMO, VPMA, medical director, or equivalent), at least ten years of experience as a practicing physician in pediatric patient care, and progressive senior leadership in a multi-site academic health system or integrated academic delivery network. Candidates should also demonstrate success leading quality programs and deploying high-reliability approaches to improve quality, safety, and patient experience, with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, strong ethical standards, and a collaborative leadership style that motivates and empowers others.
