Description

The client is seeking a Vice President of Marketing & Communications (VPMC) to lead the organization’s marketing, communications, brand, and public presence in support of its mission to address homelessness with dignity, effectiveness, and urgency. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and serving as a key member of the leadership team, the VPMC will translate organizational priorities into clear, executable marketing and communications plans and ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across internal and external stakeholders. This role is both strategic and highly operational, with leadership focused on public understanding of homelessness as a solvable challenge and on awareness and donor engagement needed to sustain long-term impact.

The VPMC will provide leadership that supports resources that make services possible, strengthens the organization’s visibility, and advances compelling storytelling that mobilizes the community. Strong candidates will demonstrate multiple years of progressive marketing and brand leadership experience, ideally in nonprofit, mission-driven, or social impact environments, along with creativity and novel approaches to elevate the organization’s voice. The role also requires proven experience leading teams, managing cross-functional initiatives, and driving strategic outcomes, as well as advanced knowledge of marketing, branding, and integrated communications strategies.

Essential capabilities include exceptional storytelling skills that translate complex social issues into clear, compelling narratives, strategic thinking, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The VPMC should also be able to navigate sensitive, reputational, or high-stakes issues with discretion and sound judgment, and demonstrate a commitment to equity, dignity, and ethical storytelling related to homelessness. Additional expectations include building or strengthening a marketing function with structure and measurable performance standards, defining KPIs and setting OKRs or SMART goals, driving earned media and proactive public positioning, and moving fluidly between strategic vision and detailed execution.
