Description

the client is seeking a Vice President of Finance and Risk Management for a hands-on, strategically minded finance leader role with broad influence across the organization and a path toward future executive leadership. Reporting to senior finance and risk leadership, this position will help shape and build the company’s financial and risk strategy, with responsibilities spanning statutory and management financial reporting, regulatory oversight, internal controls, enterprise risk management initiatives, reinsurance placement, investment strategy, and board reporting. The role also includes partnering through an operational transition period to help ensure continuity and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities include overseeing statutory and management financial reporting processes, coordinating audits, and supporting regulatory compliance and process improvement efforts to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial information. The vice president will lead and develop a high-performing team of five finance professionals, including mentoring, performance management, setting priorities, and ensuring high-quality deliverables in a collaborative, accountable, and growth-oriented environment. This leader will also contribute to enterprise-wide strategic finance and risk initiatives, such as capital planning and capital modeling, financial analysis for risk assessment, investment strategy input, reinsurance placement strategy, ERM development, and long-range planning.

The position is expected to engage regularly with executive leadership through board-level reporting materials, financial presentations, and strategic analyses, translating complex financial and operational information into clear, actionable insights. It will also support operational transition and process leadership by partnering closely with the retiring controller to facilitate knowledge transfer, evaluate workflows, redistribute responsibilities as appropriate, and strengthen efficiency across the finance and accounting function. Requirements include CPA certification (with additional insurance designations such as CPCU, CIC, or AIAF as a plus) and progressive leadership experience in finance, risk, and accounting within a property and casualty insurance context, along with strong expertise in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, internal controls, and financial planning and analysis, including advanced Excel skills and familiarity with Power BI or similar reporting tools.
