The client is a mission-driven cultural institution focused on promoting understanding and appreciation of America’s ethnic and cultural diversity through the Japanese American experience. It creates exhibitions, educational public programs, documentaries, and curriculum that illuminate the history and cultural heritage of people of Japanese ancestry in the United States, and it actively advocates when diversity, dignity, and social justice are undermined.
The client is preparing for a major reopening in late 2026 following a period of closure and renovation, creating a pivotal opportunity to reflect on audience engagement and reimagine the visitor experience for the next generation. The Vice President of Audience Engagement will provide strategic direction for the museum’s public-facing functions, working to deepen engagement with existing audiences while cultivating new audiences aligned with the institution’s mission, reaching locally, nationally, and digitally.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and partnering closely with the Chief Executive Officer, this executive leader will guide cohesive strategies that align programs, partnerships, and visitor experiences with broader organizational priorities. As part of the executive leadership team, the Vice President will act as a thought partner to unify audience-facing efforts, strengthen cross-department collaboration, and champion a welcoming and accessible visitor experience that reflects the client’s values, ensuring the reopening and future growth resonate with diverse communities.
