The client is creating a new senior leadership role, Vice President, Membership & Communications, to help strengthen and modernize a changing membership and communications function as part of a strategic plan spanning 2026–2029. The client is a professional association representing physicians, residents, and medical students across its local region, with an ambitious multi-year focus on expanding reach, increasing member value, and deepening relationships with health systems, practices, and training programs. in this role, you will lead membership growth and retention efforts while developing meaningful ways for physicians to connect with The client and with each other.
You will own the full membership lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, retention, and re-engagement, and serve as a visible, trusted point of contact for physicians. you will lead engagement strategy for key physician audiences, including women physicians, early-career physicians, independent physicians, residents, and medical students, and oversee relevant membership governance groups. you will build and manage an annual portfolio of programs and events, including strategic oversight of an awards program, and drive direct member communications and marketing strategy across email, digital channels, social channels, and publication efforts, working closely with the executive director as managing editor for the organization’s bulletin content and production.
You will partner as primary staff support on membership and physician engagement with an affiliated state medical society and assist with coordination related to a house of delegates. you will supervise and develop one team member, setting annual goals, budgets, and performance reporting for membership and communications. qualifications include 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in membership, physician relations, communications, association management, healthcare engagement, or nonprofit leadership, demonstrated staff supervision and budget management, and strong relationship-building alongside writing, project management, and organizational skills; comfort using data and AI tools is expected. the role operates on a hybrid schedule (three days in office, two remote, with one required all-staff in-office day), with some early mornings, evenings, occasional weekends tied to physician events, and limited local travel. compensation is commensurate with experience, and a comprehensive benefits package and workplace flexibility are offered.
