the client is seeking a highly qualified Vice President Dental Director to oversee the scientific and clinical aspects of dental benefits administration. This leadership role supports alignment with current dental practices, evidence-based research, and regulatory requirements, while collaborating with internal teams, external stakeholders, and professional groups to promote high-quality oral health care. The Vice President Dental Director will also act as an external spokesperson to advance strategic initiatives related to dental benefits and disease management.
Key responsibilities include identifying emerging trends and technologies in the dental industry and providing strategic recommendations to leadership. The role will review utilization, risk assessment, and dental outcomes to develop and refine payment policies, and provide clinical guidance on the necessity and appropriateness of dental treatments to ensure benefit review procedures meet professional standards. The director will oversee quality assurance programs by establishing performance metrics, developing protocols to improve care quality, and assessing outcomes for continuous improvement, while leading initiatives to increase adoption of risk-based dental benefits and disease management strategies. Additional duties include supporting government administration and contracting for compliance and efficiency; collaborating with professional relations on network recruitment, credentialing, and fraud prevention; training and calibrating professional dental consultants for consistent claims adjudication and policy adherence; serving as a liaison to state and national stakeholders for research, education, and policy advocacy; and supporting product development, marketing, and community outreach.
The position requires a Doctor of Dental Science or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from an accredited college of dentistry, along with State of Iowa dental licensure or willingness to obtain it. Candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience presenting publicly and representing an organization, and comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based dentistry, disease management, oral wellness, and the relationship between oral health and systemic health. Experience is expected in dental quality assurance, risk assessments, and outcome measurement standards, as well as familiarity with current dental science, utilization review standards, data analysis, practice protocols, and relevant terminology and regulatory considerations. The role requires demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development ability, and involves travel of up to 50% within Iowa and occasionally to other states, including overnight stays, with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
