Description

The client is seeking a Vice President of the Department of Medicine to lead a broad portfolio of administrative and operational functions. This role is accountable for administrative operations, fiscal planning and oversight, clinical operations and strategy, research systems, leadership development, regulatory compliance, and administrative infrastructure. Working closely with senior department and academic leadership, the Vice President evaluates, designs, implements, and monitors process improvements that support clinical, research, and educational excellence, with an emphasis on providing timely, responsive, accurate, and high-quality administrative support.

The Vice President will partner with department leadership, section chiefs, vice chairs, and center leadership to develop and execute a multi-year integration plan for activities and administrative structures within the Department of Medicine. The position requires strategic insight and organizational capability to navigate significant change while ensuring cohesive administrative leadership that can drive integration and maintain smooth day-to-day operations across clinical care, research, and education. The role also involves fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring effective coordination among stakeholders.

Qualifications include a master’s degree (such as an MBA, MHA, or equivalent). The client expects strong strategic thinking with the ability to align financial and operational strategies to the organization’s missions, along with proven leadership and interpersonal skills for inspiring and managing teams in high-stakes environments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to engage effectively with a diverse constituency of leaders, faculty, and staff, plus openness to giving and receiving feedback. Additional expectations include financial acumen in healthcare and academic financial models (including grants and funding mechanisms), capability in cross-entity collaboration, and an ability to identify and implement solutions that enhance operational efficiency and financial sustainability.
