The client invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice Dean. As the chief academic officer for the school, the Vice Dean will help shape the future of education and practice in journalism and mass communication by connecting teaching, applied research, and real-world experience with an ethos of public service, equity, and innovation. Reporting directly to the Dean, the inaugural Vice Dean will provide strategic, academic, and operational oversight for faculty and student affairs and will be a key member of the leadership team responsible for advancing the school’s vision as a leader in journalism, strategic communication, and media education.
The Vice Dean will lead the academic evolution of the school amid rapid technological change and global expansion, balancing academic rigor with an entrepreneurial and applied mission. The role emphasizes fostering transparency, inclusion, and collaboration among faculty, staff, and students, and strengthening connections between research, practice, and pedagogy through the RTAST model (Research, Test, Apply, Share, Train). As chief academic officer, the Vice Dean will oversee the integrity and excellence of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs, guide curriculum design and academic innovation across on-campus, online, and global platforms, and partner with the Dean to execute the school’s strategic plan with a focus on academic quality and enrollment growth.
Core responsibilities include leading academic governance with senior leadership, advancing program assessment and innovation, and overseeing faculty matters such as recruitment, development, mentoring, evaluation, promotion, and retention. The Vice Dean will provide oversight of student success initiatives across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, ensuring cohesive advising, mentoring, and academic support, and promoting a student-centered learning environment that integrates classroom instruction with professional experience through the school’s news, professional learning, and external program offerings. The Vice Dean will also support and elevate the research enterprise by encouraging faculty collaboration and cross-disciplinary innovation, strengthening external engagement, and enhancing pathways for student access, persistence, and career readiness through partnerships.
