The client is seeking a Vice Chairperson for a local drug and alcohol and violence intervention task force serving the Canal community (including Bluebell, Inchicore and Rialto). This is a voluntary, non-salaried role with reimbursement of reasonable expenses incurred for travel or phone calls in line with applicable public financial regulations. The vice chair is expected to dedicate approximately the equivalent of 1–2 working days per month, with additional time required when deputising for the chairperson or when leading specific work streams, including strategic plan and violence intervention activities.
Key responsibilities include attending and supporting the task force’s regular meetings, deputising as chair when required, and participating in leadership activities to drive implementation. The role will involve leading or chairing quarterly strategic plan implementation review meetings, providing oversight and planning for the violence intervention strategy, attending advisory and coordination meetings to review progress, and participating in meetings with health and other funders as needed alongside the chairperson. The vice chair will also keep informed of relevant materials issued by public bodies and funders, and familiarise themselves with task force membership, represented organisations, and funded projects.
The vice chair will provide governance-focused support to the chairperson and task force, deputising for external engagements when the chairperson is unavailable and assisting with overall leadership and good governance. They are expected to help translate strategic goals into an actionable work programme, monitor and report progress against objectives, milestones, and performance indicators on a quarterly basis, identify risks or delivery barriers with recommended actions, and support alignment of funding proposals and budgets with the strategic plan. The role also benefits from a partnership approach to problem solving and may draw on competencies such as experience or understanding of strategic planning and performance monitoring, knowledge of drugs and alcohol misuse and community safety/violence intervention issues, familiarity with social inclusion and community development approaches, and experience in leadership roles supporting teams and staff.
