Description

The client seeks an inaugural Vice Chair, Anesthesiology Critical Care. This leadership role is intended for a board-certified anesthesiologist with subspecialty certification in Critical Care medicine and a demonstrated record of divisional, departmental, or institutional leadership, along with senior academic rank credentials. Working in partnership with the Chair of Anesthesiology, the Vice Chair will lead the growth, organization, and strategic direction of the Anesthesiology Critical Care program across The client network.

The Vice Chair will provide clinical, operational, academic, and administrative leadership, advancing excellence in patient care, education, academic productivity, and quality outcomes. Key priorities include expanding critical care services, developing faculty, strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration, and enhancing the program’s regional and national reputation. The role includes strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the Division of Anesthesiology Critical Care at the medical center and across affiliated community hospitals.

Responsibilities include driving growth and expansion of anesthesiology critical care services, including coverage of the cardiothoracic intensive care unit (CTICU) and other critical care environments; developing equitable clinical scheduling, call coverage, and workload distribution; collaborating with nursing leadership, surgeons, intensivists, and hospital administrators to optimize care delivery; and establishing standards of excellence to continuously improve quality, patient safety, and clinical outcomes. The Vice Chair will mentor and support faculty development and academic advancement, enhance the department’s academic profile through scholarship, innovation, and program development, and build and lead a high-performing division aligned with The client’s mission and strategic priorities. Qualifications include ABA Diplomate status in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and demonstrated experience leading a departmental division, service line, or institutional program, with leadership strengths that balance strategy and operations, executive presence, sound judgment, negotiation skills, and the ability to delegate, execute, and hold teams accountable.
