The client is seeking a UX Design Director to serve in a player-coach capacity. This role leads and develops a small design team while also contributing hands-on across multiple product domains. The UX Design Director will partner with senior stakeholders, engineering teams, and UX research to maintain design quality and drive key design initiatives within a small team embedded in a larger organization.
Key responsibilities include building and evolving a review and gating process for new platform components and capabilities, and collaborating closely with product, engineering, and UX research teams on interaction design, user flows, prototypes, and visual design. The role involves running critiques and strengthening collaboration to elevate overall design quality, representing the design perspective in product planning and engineering discussions, and translating design rationale for both technical and non-technical audiences.
The role requires 10+ years of hands-on UX design experience, including experience leading and developing designers, with a portfolio showing recent individual contributor work. Candidates should have experience building or influencing design governance or review processes, strong systems thinking, and credibility in technical conversations with product managers, engineers, and architects. Experience integrating GenAI/LLM tooling into professional workflows and designing for AI-powered or agentic products is expected, along with the ability to thrive in lean, ambiguous environments and build processes from scratch; experience in regulated domains and chat-based GenAI experiences is preferred.
