The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that sets and operates global standards for responsible aquaculture. Our vision is to have aquaculture play a major role in supplying food and social benefits for humanity while minimizing negative impacts on the environment. ASC certifies farms that have met the highest standards for environmentally and socially responsible practices, promoting certified farmed products to consumers through the use of our logo.
The aquaculture industry is growing steadily and already supplies more than half of all seafood consumed worldwide. ASC aims to reduce the environmental and social footprint associated with this expansion by promoting the purchase of ASC certified seafood. Certified products help provide cleaner, healthier, and safer farm-raised seafood, conserve and restore the world's oceans, coasts, and wildlife, and improve the lives of seafood farmers and local communities in the developing world.
ASC is a growing organization with dedicated staff working from various countries. We are committed to transparency, independence, and stakeholder participation. The Board of Trustees sets the strategy, provides oversight, and supports and challenges the organization to achieve the greatest impact possible. ASC is currently seeking two Board Trustees with experience in environmentally or socially focused NGOs to help extend our ambition and impact.
