the client is seeking a Washington Transportation Policy Director to lead the organization’s work in Washington on an equitable transition to a zero-emission transportation system. This role focuses on on-road transportation policy across passenger and commercial vehicles, trucking, rail, public transit, and supportive infrastructure. The director will apply technical expertise in transportation issues and policy analysis, provide advocacy leadership, and build trusted partnerships with community organizations and local and state government agencies.
The position will develop and lead Washington’s transportation decarbonization policy portfolio across state, regulatory, and local levels, collaborating closely with the rest of the Washington Policy Team and a broad network of partners. The director will be comfortable leading transportation decarbonization advocacy efforts, including in state legislative settings, and will thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven, highly collaborative environment. Success will be reflected in the ability to advance transportation decarbonization progress while supporting climate and environmental justice priorities in Washington.
Key responsibilities include leading transportation policy strategy and implementation (including developing and defending the portfolio in legislative and regulatory venues, leveraging advocacy to support transportation decarbonization goals and related electric vehicle and fuel policy programs, and responding rapidly to emerging state and federal developments affecting Washington). The director will also manage stakeholder engagement and coalition building by sustaining trust-based relationships with a diverse set of partners—such as community-based organizations, Tribal nations, labor unions, transportation-focused organizations, utilities, businesses, and local, state, and federal agencies and elected officials—while representing the client and amplifying shared policy objectives through collaborative efforts.
