The client is seeking a leader to help establish and grow a new steel import and distribution business in Australia. This role will support the setup of a 360° steel distribution platform, with the opportunity to leverage existing export relationships across India and other Asian markets to support commercial success.
Key responsibilities include leading the establishment and commercial development of the steel distribution business; developing and executing the market entry strategy for long products, flat products, pipes, and wire; building and managing relationships with Australian distributors, stockholders, contractors, and end users; and coordinating sourcing through established supplier networks in India and other Asian markets. The role will also oversee performance across P&L, pricing strategy, logistics coordination, and overall business performance.
Qualifications include at least seven years of experience in physical steel trading or distribution, ideally with experience in the Australian market. The client will look for a strong network across steel distributors and industrial end users in Australia, proven experience managing P&L and driving commercial growth, and a deep understanding of steel supply chains, import logistics, and pricing structures. Experience working with Asian steel suppliers, particularly India, is highly desirable, along with an entrepreneurial mindset to build and scale a business from the ground up.
