the client is seeking a State Director of Public Affairs to serve as the senior political and strategic lead for policy campaigns in Massachusetts. As a member of the client’s national leadership team, this role is responsible for setting political strategy and policy positioning, and for building and managing relationships that advance the client’s national issue agenda at the state and local level. This is a public-facing leadership position focused on partnering externally with policymakers, state and local officials, coalition partners, funders, and media to support educator-driven issue advocacy campaigns.

the State Director will analyze the state and local political landscape to identify opportunities and advise on viable pathways for teacher-led policy change aligned with the client’s national policy agenda. responsibilities also include defining the strategy and theory of change for state or local issue advocacy campaigns, right-sizing campaigns based on political conditions and coalition alignment, and providing assessment and recommendations on legislative pathways, timing, and decision-making. The role operates as a matrixed leader, supporting a local fellowship of teacher leaders that informs and drives campaign priorities, and overseeing centralized campaign operations and embedded support from communications, digital, organizing, and policy functions within the national program team.
