The client seeks an inaugural Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, a seasoned strategic and entrepreneurial leader to guide the organization’s marketing and communications strategy during a pivotal period as it advances an ambitious multi-year plan and prepares for a comprehensive campaign. This elevated executive role will partner closely with the CEO and the executive team, helping to strengthen and broaden a regional brand to national visibility and working with the Development function to engage prospective donors and funders through meaningful connections with new audiences.
The SVP will provide vision and leadership for a team of five, developing and managing an integrated marketing and communications program that increases brand awareness and effectively engages key stakeholder audiences. Responsibilities include articulating the client’s distinctive identity, developing strategies and communications that clearly convey the organization’s impact, and promoting its research, education, and innovation accomplishments—particularly in support of the upcoming campaign—using strong expertise across traditional and digital media and an understanding of how communications, marketing, media, and technology continue to evolve.
The SVP is expected to bring proven leadership experience building and leading teams, supporting and developing people, and implementing multi-faceted marketing and communications programs for organizations with diverse audiences. The role requires superior written and oral communication skills, the ability to differentiate and tailor messaging concisely and transparently for varied stakeholders, and a collaborative, collegial approach supported by intellectual curiosity and strong emotional intelligence. While experience in scientific organizations may be desirable, it is not required; the SVP must be able to immerse themselves in the organization’s work to serve as a chief spokesperson and navigate complex internal and external landscapes with political savvy and flexibility.
