Description

The client is seeking a Senior Director of eCommerce Engineering to help modernize enterprise commerce platforms and shape long-term architecture strategy. This highly visible leadership role will support AI-driven innovation and improve the reliability, performance, and developer productivity of global, customer-facing commerce experiences through close partnership with engineering leaders, architects, and product stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include guiding architecture strategy across enterprise commerce platforms; driving modernization efforts across legacy Java-based backend systems; improving checkout, billing, subscription, and payments infrastructure; and influencing cloud, platform, and database modernization initiatives. The role also involves introducing AI-enabled capabilities across engineering workflows and platform experiences, improving platform scalability and operational efficiency, and defining long-term technical roadmaps and engineering standards.

The client is looking for experience building and developing engineering organizations in consumer technology environments, with a strong background in backend architecture and distributed systems. Candidates should have deep expertise in Java-based engineering environments and experience modernizing enterprise platforms and applications, along with cloud platform experience (ideally within Azure environments) and the ability to operate effectively at both strategic and technical levels. Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams is required, and preferred experience includes payments, billing, checkout, or subscription platforms, consumer-facing commerce/transaction-based platforms, AI-driven platform modernization initiatives, database modernization or migration experience (including Oracle), AWS exposure, and familiarity with React.
