The client seeks a highly strategic Senior Director of Communications to shape, protect, and elevate the organization’s public voice through nuanced, high-impact messaging. This senior leader will execute communications strategies that support programmatic storytelling, engage the public square, and ensure the organization’s ideas, programs, and scholarship are communicated with clarity, nuance, and coherence across audiences. The role will involve close collaboration with creative/digital, marketing and communications, and development teams to align messaging with the organization’s full scope of work.

Working in partnership with leadership, the Senior Director will set the high-level vision for organizational storytelling platforms, serve as an editorial filter for public-facing messaging, and act as a strategic partner to program, development, education, and colleagues across geographies. Responsibilities include developing and executing proactive media relations to elevate The client’s profile and amplify scholars and leadership, leveraging existing media relationships to secure op-eds, interviews, and features, and supporting rapid-response and crisis communications efforts with guidance for executive leadership during complex communal or geopolitical moments.

The Senior Director will support audience growth by leveraging digital and email platforms to align with institutional priorities, developing strategies for dynamic audience engagement, and overseeing day-to-day execution of these channels to ensure mission-aligned impact. The role includes establishing key performance indicators (KPIs), using audience insights and data analytics to refine the digital footprint and distribution methods, and building consistent application of brand standards and institutional voice across materials and platforms. The Senior Director will manage a communications team of three, is expected to be based in a NY office with in-person work four days per week, and will oversee production and review of marketing collateral while partnering with creative and content teams to strengthen brand presence.
