the client is seeking a Senior Director, Engineering to lead a growing global engineering team of 20+ professionals. This role is highly visible and partners closely with senior leadership, including the executive team and the C-suite, to shape and deliver engineering strategy across global eCommerce and commerce-critical systems.
Key responsibilities include leading architecture and technical direction for global eCommerce platforms, modernizing legacy Java systems into AI-enabled solutions, and overseeing checkout, billing, subscriptions, payments, and third-party payment integrations at scale. The role will also drive cloud and database modernization planning, including migration strategy for relational databases, while providing hands-on architectural guidance, influencing AI adoption, and elevating engineering capabilities across teams to improve scalability and reliability.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience across large-scale eCommerce, payments, platform modernization, and AI-assisted system design, along with a track record of leading legacy-to-modern transformation initiatives. Qualifications include a required bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and strong Java backend and system architecture experience, with cloud exposure (Azure expected, and AWS experience viewed as a plus). Preferred experience includes payments, subscription/billing modernization, AI-driven transformation, database migration planning, and background related to cybersecurity/fintech domains.
