Description

The client is seeking a Senior Director, Engineering to lead Licensing & Accounts Engineering and drive the modernization of mission-critical licensing and accounts platforms that support complex global product ecosystems. This role will define the long-term technical roadmap for reusable licensing services, reduce system complexity across tightly coupled platforms, and advance scalable platform design and backend modernization across multiple products and interfaces.

Key responsibilities include owning the architecture and modernization strategy for licensing and accounts systems; leading the transformation of 7+ critical Java backend components; simplifying integrations across products, frontend systems, and legal/commercial constraints; designing scalable, reusable licensing frameworks for multiple products and interfaces; and partnering closely with Product Management and Architects on strategy and execution. The role also provides technical leadership by guiding design decisions to reduce coupling, improve platform reuse, and ensure systems remain resilient, scalable, and future-ready.

The leader will manage and scale a highly critical engineering organization of approximately 20–25+ engineers, mentor senior engineers and technical leaders, and drive alignment across shared services and cross-functional teams. The day-to-day focus typically includes architecture and system design leadership, roadmap ownership with cross-functional collaboration, and people leadership and mentoring; early priorities may include establishing and executing a modernization roadmap, reducing complexity and redundant touchpoints, improving integration patterns and backend service design, and strengthening engineering maturity and standards. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in senior engineering leadership, strong backend shared services and large-scale architecture experience, and demonstrated ability to modernize legacy backend systems in mid-to-large organizations, with deep Java backend expertise and integration-heavy architecture experience.
