The client is seeking a Senior Director of Campaigns & Advocacy to oversee its campaigns and advocacy work across two related organizations: a 501(c)(3) and a sister 501(c)(4). Reporting to the Managing Director and COO, this senior leader will design and drive campaigns and advocacy strategies through organizing, collective power building, and cultural expression, with the goal of advancing systems change aligned with organizational priorities. The role is part of the Senior Leadership team and will partner closely with Storytelling and Communications and Advancement leaders to maximize organizational impact.
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing comprehensive multi-issue campaign and advocacy strategies, mobilizing communities and stakeholders, and integrating cultural organizing, movement and power-building, and narrative approaches. The Senior Director will manage a division that includes a multi-issue team of campaigns and policy staff, and provide leadership across associate-level senior leadership and director-level direct reports. The role will also lead base-building and ladder-of-engagement strategies that combine on-the-ground and online organizing, and ensure justice principles are centered across strategy and execution.
The Senior Director will establish effective impact evaluation systems, lead planning and budgeting for the division, and ensure compliance with legal, finance, and operations protocols appropriate to both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4 operations. The position also includes serving as a spokesperson in communities and online settings with partners and media, growing grassroots organizing through outreach, training, volunteer engagement, and community mobilization, and building leadership development and organizational infrastructure to strengthen community advocacy capacity. Additional duties include overseeing coalition management and participation, facilitating partnerships with cross-sector stakeholders, collaborating with allies to support grassroots movements, and working with policymakers and government agencies at local, state, federal, and international levels.
