The client is hiring a Safety Director for an onsite direct hire role based in Pittsburgh, PA. The position manages and promotes a behavior-based, employee-driven safety culture across all locations and jobsites, reinforcing safety as a top company value. The Safety Director oversees safety training and documentation, ensures each project site has a safety plan with identified risks and mitigation strategies, and maintains an active on-site presence by representing safety across selected projects.
Key responsibilities include developing and delivering safety communications and training, scheduling safety team activities, and facilitating jobsite safety visits across projects in multiple regions. The role manages safety processes and key metrics to track trends and risk indicators, conducts safety inspections, audits, and investigations, and leads incident investigations while communicating outcomes organization-wide. The Safety Director also partners with executives, field leaders, and risk management to develop corrective measures, performs jobsite inspections to recommend operational and safety improvements, and prepares safety-related input for bid proposals in coordination with project managers and field leadership.
Required qualifications include holding a safety and health credential such as CSP, CIH, ASP, CHST, or an equivalent, along with substantial relevant construction safety experience, or alternatively a bachelor’s degree in safety management or engineering with significant related experience. Additional expectations include completion of OSHA 500 within the last five years and completion of OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach Training within the last five years, as well as board certification as a CHST or higher. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, partnership, and communication skills to work with operations and field crews, can interpret government safety regulations, has CPR/First Aid/AED and blood-borne pathogens training, and has completed drug and alcohol reasonable suspicion training; physical ability to conduct frequent site visits—including ladder climbing, walking on uneven terrain, and lifting up to 40 pounds—is also expected.
