The client is seeking a Retail Store General Manager to drive sales and oversee daily operations at a high-end cigar retail location in New York City. The role serves as a brand ambassador within the local market, managing external relationships and supporting marketing, merchandising, and local activities, including networking with high-net-worth individuals and organizing events.
The Retail Store General Manager will manage retail staff and ensure operations meet company standards while delivering financial and operational objectives. Key responsibilities include monitoring and achieving store sales and profit goals, increasing revenue through product education, sampling, and outside partnerships, overseeing expenses to remain within budget, and maintaining accurate cash handling records and opening and closing procedures. The role also includes reviewing merchandise orders and inventory levels, implementing inventory procedures and control programs, sustaining visual standards that support the brand image, and developing customer information to enhance sales and maintain customer logs.
The ideal candidate has 4–6 years of retail experience in luxury goods or a related field, with a proven track record in managing teams in a competitive, fast-paced environment. Strong visual merchandising and managerial skills are required, including the ability to recruit, coach, train, motivate, and hold a sales team accountable to goals, visual merchandising directives, and product knowledge, while delivering outstanding customer service. Knowledge of cigars or pipe tobacco is a strong plus, along with strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and follow-through skills, and the ability to prioritize, manage time effectively, and use judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
