Description

The client is seeking a Retail Store General Manager for a new premium cigar retail location in Nashville, TN. The role will drive sales by leading the retail team, building relationships with customers, and representing the brand through local networking and community-facing activities, including organizing events. The ideal candidate will have experience managing luxury or high-end retail products and a strong interest in cigars, with familiarity working in environments that require strong retail best practices and consistent execution in high-volume settings.

Key responsibilities include serving as an ambassador for the brand within the local market and overseeing store operations to company standards. The general manager will monitor and deliver sales and performance targets, including store sales, dollars per transaction, memberships, and profit goals, while ensuring customer satisfaction and relationship-building are consistently achieved. The position also involves creating added sales volume through product education, sampling, and outside partnerships; monitoring expenses to support positive store contribution aligned with budget objectives; maintaining cash handling records and opening/closing procedures; reviewing merchandise orders and inventory accuracy; and implementing inventory control processes.

The general manager will demonstrate and sell products by explaining benefits, features, pricing, quality, and value while maintaining strong visual standards that support the brand image. They will develop customer insights to enhance sales and maintain customer records, educate and hold the sales team accountable to company goals and merchandising directives, and plan and set up special events and promotions with an activity calendar. Additional expectations include recruiting, training, motivating, and developing retail team members; maintaining communication with supervisors regarding sell-through and improvement opportunities; and monitoring competitive activities. Requirements include 4–6 years of luxury retail management experience, strong visual merchandising and managerial skills, the ability to coach and train, comfort in a fast-paced competitive environment, strong interpersonal and organizational abilities, and cigar/pipe tobacco knowledge as a strong plus.
