Description

The client seeks a seasoned, purpose-driven President and Chief Executive Officer to lead a complex public health system in a highly visible public governance environment. The role represents an opportunity to steward an essential public health system at a defining moment in its evolution, balancing public accountability, academic medicine, and complex clinical care while advancing a clear mandate for transformation. The President and CEO will lead in the context of a rapidly evolving Medicaid environment, with heightened expectations for transparency, equity, and performance.

The President and CEO serves as the chief executive of the client and is accountable to a publicly elected Board of Directors for overall performance, strategic direction, and long-term sustainability. In partnership with the Board, the executive defines and advances system-wide strategy and serves as the principal representative to community leaders, governmental officials, academic partners, and other stakeholders. The role includes ultimate responsibility for operational, financial, and clinical performance, ensuring delivery of high-quality, equitable, compassionate care in compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards.

A critical dimension of the role is close partnership with the affiliated physician organization that employs and manages physicians and advanced practice providers, supporting alignment across clinical care, academic programming, physician engagement, and financial sustainability. The President and CEO will educate and align the Board on complex issues related to professional services agreements and Medicaid funding dynamics, including strategic deployment of bond proceeds. The ideal candidate holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public health, or a related field; fellowship in the American College of Healthcare Executives or comparable credentials is desirable. Significant senior executive leadership experience in complex healthcare organizations, along with demonstrated board partnership in public or publicly accountable settings and a track record of physician and clinical leader partnership—particularly in integrated or closed medical staff models—is strongly preferred.
