The job involves overseeing two executive arms of our client: The Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR). The ONS is responsible for producing official statistics on the economy, population, and society, as well as conducting the census in England and Wales every ten years. The OSR serves as the UK's statistics regulator, providing independent regulation to enhance public confidence in the trustworthiness, quality, and value of statistics, and upholding the Code of Practice for Statistics. The majority of official statistics are produced within the Government Statistical Service (GSS), a network of statisticians across various departments, agencies, and devolved governments, with the National Statistician leading this community as Head of the GSS.The role will involve working closely with the ONS and OSR to ensure the production of high-quality, trustworthy, and valuable statistics that meet the needs of the public and policymakers. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Code of Practice for Statistics, as well as providing leadership and guidance to the GSS community. They will also play a key role in enhancing public confidence in official statistics and promoting the importance of data integrity and transparency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in statistics, experience in leadership roles, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of statistical practice and regulation.
