Description

the client is seeking a collaborative, organized, and financially minded Managing Director to lead business operations and organizational administration. The Managing Director serves as the senior operational leader, partnering with programming, education, and production leadership and working in coordination with the Board of Directors. This role focuses on advancing organizational structure, coordination, and financial discipline within a creative, inclusive environment, while ensuring people, programs, finances, and systems operate effectively and sustainably.

The Managing Director will provide day-to-day leadership for operations, staff, and volunteers, including leading, supporting, and developing volunteer and staff leadership. Responsibilities also include fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable culture; improving systems, processes, and workflows; ensuring departments align to shared goals; and overseeing day-to-day organizational decision-making. The role is expected to be on-site during evenings and weekends for events and performances, with some availability during daytime business hours, and begins as part-time (20 hours per week) with potential for increased hours based on financial standing.

Financial stewardship and sustainability are core to the position, with duties that may include developing and monitoring the annual operating budget, reviewing financial performance and recommending adjustments, and supporting fundraising, sponsorship, grant, and earned revenue initiatives in partnership with the Board. The Managing Director will help strengthen revenue opportunities tied to programming, rentals, partnerships, and classes, and ensure compliance with nonprofit financial and operational requirements. They will partner closely with the Board to implement strategic priorities, serve as a primary liaison between the Board and staff, provide regular operational and financial updates, support major organizational decisions and committees, and represent the organization in the community to build relationships and support audience and partnership growth.
