Lead Clinician for Foster Care Services in Virginia will shape and lead the delivery of high-quality clinical services supporting the stability and well-being of youth in care. This department-head role combines trauma-informed clinical expertise with strategic leadership, including direct supervision of a small team of clinicians and ensuring program adherence to required State and Federal regulations. The role also serves as a key consultant and advocate for the program, helping drive meaningful outcomes for children and their foster and biological families.
Responsibilities include providing expert guidance, mentorship, and supervision to ensure effective service delivery and adherence to best practices; delivering trauma-informed care through therapeutic services, family therapy, and consultation to support stable placements; and overseeing clinical documentation to ensure compliance with licensing and program requirements. The Lead Clinician will lead clinical trainings for new staff and interns, engage families and foster parents while coordinating client-centered services with external partners, and provide clinical support and guidance during crisis situations.
The role requires a Master’s degree in Social Work or a Master’s/PhD in Psychology, Sociology, or a relevant behavioral science field where clinical experience is a program requirement, along with at least 2+ years of postgraduate direct service delivery experience. Licensure as an LCSW in Virginia is required, or eligibility to obtain licensure, and 2+ years of supervisory experience is expected. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including clinical writing, are required, and bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred; additional preferred experience includes working with refugee and immigrant populations, familiarity with foster care systems and community resources, and experience supporting professional growth for clinical staff.
