Description

An interim Executive Director is needed to provide steady, thoughtful leadership during a transition for The client, a mission-driven nonprofit focused on harm reduction, health equity, advocacy, and community well-being throughout Arizona. The role supports a community-centered organization that advances its mission through street-based outreach, organizational capacity building, statewide advocacy, and community partnerships.

The Interim Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors and organizational leadership to ensure continuity, support staff, oversee organizational health, and maintain momentum across programs, fundraising, advocacy, operations, and external partnerships. This leader is expected to keep financial and operational priorities effectively managed during the interim period, while building trust quickly and establishing strong relationships within a collaborative, equity-driven culture.

Key responsibilities include leading and mentoring staff, partnering on organizational strategy and decision-making, and overseeing financial and operational management such as budgeting, cash flow, resource allocation, compliance, and sustainability. The role also involves maintaining progress on fundraising, grants, and contracts; overseeing programs and advocacy grounded in harm reduction and responsive to community needs; and representing The client externally by strengthening relationships with community organizations, government partners, policymakers, coalitions, funders, and other stakeholders. The client seeks a collaborative senior nonprofit leader with five or more years of executive-level nonprofit leadership experience and demonstrated commitment to equity and anti-racism, ideally with experience connected to harm reduction, public health, or related mission-driven work.
