The client is seeking an Indirect Tax Director to join its growing North of England team, working in a flexible/hybrid way. This role supports a nationally known indirect tax practice advising a broad client base across VAT, Customs Duties, and Environmental Taxes, with a mix of strategic advisory and compliance support. The position is intended for either an established Indirect Tax Director looking for a new challenge or a senior-level professional with a strong business development track record stepping up into a Director role.
Key responsibilities include building and strengthening relationships with senior stakeholders, leading business development initiatives, and converting opportunities into profitable engagements through proposals, tenders, and client presentations. The director will develop new client relationships, expand existing accounts, and help drive growth across domestic and international markets. In addition, the role requires trusted advisory support on complex indirect tax matters, with leadership of VAT-focused advisory projects while maintaining exceptional service standards and aligning technical solutions with clients’ commercial objectives.
The director will provide leadership and collaboration across tax, legal, and advisory service lines to identify cross-service opportunities, working with specialists to deliver integrated solutions for clients. Responsibilities include mentoring and developing junior team members, fostering an inclusive and high-performing culture, and serving as a subject matter expert. The ideal candidate will bring significant indirect tax experience with a strong focus on VAT advisory, a proven record of winning work and managing client relationships, strong stakeholder and project management skills, and the ability to communicate complex technical matters clearly in a commercial context.
