the client is seeking a Head of U.S. Customs, Trade & Compliance to lead enterprise-wide customs and trade compliance strategy across the U.S. network. This executive role will help ensure alignment with evolving U.S. customs and tariff regulations while driving operational performance and measurable compliance outcomes.
Key responsibilities include owning customs-related performance through risk management, operational excellence, and financial outcomes. The role will lead national strategy for customs, tariffs, and trade compliance; act as the organization’s licensed U.S. Customs Broker and national permit holder; ensure compliance with U.S. import and export regulations; oversee brokerage operations across multiple hubs and gateways; and translate complex regulatory requirements into scalable business processes.
The position will also develop and implement compliance programs, policies, and internal controls; lead audit and governance activities; maintain relationships with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other regulatory bodies; and partner with senior leadership, legal, and government affairs to anticipate regulatory changes. The head will manage customs-related P&L performance, drive continuous improvement through automation and modernization initiatives, and build and lead a high-performing national compliance organization, typically requiring a bachelor’s degree, an active U.S. Customs Broker license, and 10+ years of leadership experience in customs, trade compliance, or international logistics.
