Description

The client is seeking an accomplished and collaborative academic leader to join the Faculty of Science and Engineering as Head of School, Molecular and Life Sciences. The school is recognised for excellence in teaching, research and industry engagement across disciplines including agriculture and food, chemistry, ecology, and environmental science, supported by world-class facilities and high-impact research programs.

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Science and Engineering, the Head of School provides strategic, academic and operational leadership for the school. Working closely with faculty leaders, academic staff and professional colleagues, the role will foster excellence across learning and teaching, research, engagement and impact, while strengthening the school’s national and international reputation. Responsibilities include leading people, resources and performance, shaping the school’s strategic direction and academic profile, and building and supporting high-performing teams across teaching, research and professional services, as well as strengthening partnerships with industry, government, community and international collaborators.

The successful candidate is a respected academic leader with a collaborative approach and a strong track record of leadership within complex organisations. Requirements include a doctoral qualification and internationally recognised academic standing, a distinguished record of achievement in research, education and/or professional practice, and demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans and drive organisational performance. The role also expects strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, experience developing and leading high-performing academic teams, strong financial, operational and workforce management capability, a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigenous engagement, and the ability to build productive partnerships that enhance the school’s reputation and impact.
