Description

The client is seeking a Head of Programs to establish and lead a newly created programs division. This retained search role will support existing MGA programs while building the infrastructure, strategy, and partnerships needed to grow a high-performing delegated authority and program underwriting business. The successful leader will use strong program development experience, expertise in underwriting governance, and effective relationships with MGAs/MGUs to develop the division from the ground up.

Key responsibilities include managing existing surety and liability programs to ensure alignment with strategy, financial, and operational targets, and defining frameworks, underwriting, and reporting requirements. The role will also identify and onboard qualified MGAs/MGUs, affinity groups, and distribution partners to expand and diversify the portfolio, and lead the design of delegated authority arrangements, including performance metrics, compliance standards, and reinsurance alignment. The Head of Programs will focus on profitability, loss ratios, and capital efficiency, leveraging data and analytics to support decision-making and ensure alignment with corporate objectives.

The Head of Programs will align claims strategy with underwriting and pricing to support program profitability, including selecting, onboarding, and managing TPAs and claims service providers while monitoring loss ratios, claim trends, and reserves. The role will escalate complex or disputed claims across programs as needed and ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and risk selection standards. The position also includes attracting, developing, and retaining a qualified team of underwriters, analysts, and operational support staff, with requirements that include strong insurance industry experience in program management or underwriting leadership, proven success managing complex programs and portfolios, strong analytical and negotiation skills, and familiarity with regulatory frameworks and delegated authority models.
