the client seeks applications for the Head of Preservation, Conservation, and Digitization (PCD) position, a tenure-line faculty librarian role reporting to the Associate Dean for Distinctive Collections and Digital Strategies. The position provides strategic leadership and administration for the Preservation, Conservation, and Digitization department, including the University’s Conservation Centre, to support the long-term accessibility of physical and digital collections. The successful candidate will lead a talented team, advance innovative practices, cultivate donor and grant support, and represent the client in national and international collaborations.
Key responsibilities include providing leadership and strategic direction for preservation, conservation, and digitization programs, setting departmental priorities, and ensuring alignment with the client’s strategic plan and broader collaborative efforts. The Head of PCD will manage departmental operations, including budgeting, personnel and resource management, and technology planning, while articulating and implementing departmental vision across technology, policy, stewardship, and outreach. The role also includes coordinating with library administration to advance institutional priorities, contributing to library-wide budgeting and policy development, and partnering with internal teams involved in cataloging and metadata, strategic technologies, special collections, communications, and campus library operations.
The role includes representing the client in consortia and professional organizations focused on preservation, conservation, and digitization, as well as maintaining an active professional presence through service, leadership in relevant organizations, and scholarly activity and research. Appointment is expected at the rank of Associate Librarian or Librarian with tenure, and may include the title of a named chair depending on qualifications. Required qualifications include a graduate degree in a relevant field, demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience building programs, services, and teams, leadership experience in digitization/preservation/conservation or related areas, knowledge of outreach and engagement strategies, strong communication skills for diverse audiences, and the ability to foster an inclusive and respectful environment.
