the client is partnering with a highly ambitious PE-backed buy-and-build platform to appoint its first Head of IT for a rapidly scaling aerospace and defence manufacturing group. This role is designed to drive technology-led value creation rather than operating as a traditional IT function. With a target of £250m revenue and 20–30 acquisitions over the next five years, the Head of IT will build and lead the technology capability across the platform.
The role will support integration of acquired businesses, execute the group’s technology and data strategy, optimise systems and processes, and leverage modern technologies including AI to create a scalable foundation for growth. Working closely with Operations, Finance, Integration, Data, and external technology partners, and reporting to the CFO, the successful candidate is expected to establish the technology function, define the roadmap, drive execution across the platform, and translate data strategy into practical business outcomes that improve decision-making.
Key responsibilities include establishing and owning the technology strategy and roadmap; leading technology integration; driving ERP, systems, and technology transformation; building scalable technology and operating models for growth; leveraging AI and automation to improve efficiency and reduce operational complexity; managing MSPs, technology vendors, and strategic partners; and creating repeatable technology integration and Day 1/100-day playbooks for future acquisitions. The client is seeking a technology leader with experience leading technology/systems/IT functions in manufacturing, engineering, industrial, or multi-site environments, strong ERP and transformation experience, exposure to acquisition integration/carve-out/buy-and-build environments, and proven stakeholder management skills to influence senior leaders in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, with the ability to operate effectively in ambiguity and build capability from the ground up.
