the client seeks a Head of Governance to provide strategic leadership and expert advice on governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, and institutional effectiveness. Reporting to the Principal and CEO with a reporting line to the Chair of the Board, the role also includes line management responsibility for a small team and will help strengthen the institution’s governance and regulatory assurance in its next phase of development.
Key responsibilities include leading and overseeing the academic governance framework in line with the client’s policy and governance framework, acting as secretary to governance structures to ensure effective operation of board and committee meetings, and advising the Principal and CEO and senior leadership on governance matters. The role will also coordinate audits, investigations, and management responses, maintain institutional compliance with relevant regulatory requirements (including engagement with the Office for Students and other regulators), and provide oversight of regulatory reporting, compliance monitoring, and associated data quality and management processes.
The role is suited to candidates with significant experience in governance and regulatory compliance within the UK higher education sector, including proven experience managing governance frameworks, committee structures, and regulatory reporting requirements. The client is also looking for experience supporting senior leaders and governing bodies, strong understanding of academic governance, compliance and quality assurance processes, and excellent knowledge of data governance, data quality management, and regulatory reporting obligations.
