Description

The client is seeking an experienced Head of Employment Tax to lead its in-house tax function. This role offers ownership of employment tax strategy across a complex global business, partnering with senior stakeholders to shape policy, manage risk, and support a growing international workforce. Reporting to the Global Tax Director, you will lead UK and international employment tax matters and guide decisions that affect employment status, global mobility, payroll tax compliance, employee benefits, and related reporting obligations.

You will be responsible for establishing employment tax strategy and governance, overseeing employment status assessments (including off-payroll working considerations and contractor reviews), and providing expert guidance on international mobility, cross-border working, overseas assignments, and associated tax risks. You will partner with senior stakeholders to design policies, processes, and controls that sustain ongoing compliance, while monitoring legislative and case law developments and translating complex tax changes into practical business solutions.

The position includes overseeing key compliance obligations such as PSA and P11D reporting, employee benefits taxation, and international reporting requirements, as well as managing specialist advisers where needed. You will lead and develop a specialist Employment Tax Manager and work closely with HR, Reward, Payroll, Legal, and Finance teams, supporting education and awareness programmes across the business. Candidates should be recognised employment tax and/or global mobility tax specialists with the credibility to influence at all levels; in-house experience may be advantageous, alongside a proactive attitude, commercial mindset, and strong stakeholder engagement skills.
