Description

The client is seeking a Head of Department, Digital Services to lead critical digital, forensic, and data-led capabilities that underpin sensitive enforcement investigations and support the protection of consumers. This pivotal leadership role combines operational management with transformation, guiding high-impact projects and driving innovation in the use of AI and advanced technologies. The department’s work spans early intelligence through to court-ready evidence, with a focus on ensuring systems, processes, and data are used effectively and responsibly.

The Head of Department will lead four specialist teams covering digital forensics, eDiscovery, business operations, and ICT services, delivering the infrastructure, tools, and expertise needed to support investigations across the organisation. The role includes maintaining rigorous compliance with forensic and disclosure standards, supporting progression toward ISO17025 accreditation, and meeting regulatory requirements to protect the integrity and credibility of evidence in complex legal proceedings. It also involves delivery of management information and business support functions, along with overseeing eDiscovery delivery using appropriate technology to ensure value for money.

As a senior member of the leadership team, the role carries strategic responsibility across investigator training, risk management, business planning, and operational resilience. The Head of Department will work closely with internal and external partners, including law enforcement, regulators, and technology providers, to shape future enforcement capability and strengthen the UK’s response to financial crime. Key responsibilities include transformation project management to enhance system integration and enable more proactive identification of harm; developing long-term departmental planning aligned to organisational strategy; coaching and influencing stakeholders; maintaining an inclusive environment that attracts and develops diverse talent; providing governance support; maintaining stakeholder relationships; and deputising for the Director as required, including authorising responsibilities for relevant operational activity.
