Description

The client is seeking a highly experienced leader for the role of Head of Commercial. This senior position will manage The client’s entire portfolio of commercial lines, including commercial multiple peril, umbrella, commercial auto, and workers’ compensation. The role focuses on strategic market and product development, profitability oversight, and performance measurement to support sustained growth and competitiveness across the country.

Responsibilities include establishing the country’s product and pricing strategy through competitor-rate analysis and financial benchmarking; leading a team of line of business directors and coordinating closely with state product management, sales, underwriting, and service to meet product goals and service standards. The Head of Commercial will oversee long- and short-term pricing strategies, rate segmentation, data integration, and market intelligence; analyze P&L drivers at portfolio, line of business, and industry levels; and set and monitor key performance indicators with regular reporting to senior leadership and stakeholders. The role also involves partnering with product leaders to deploy market-driven product lines with aligned pricing targets, collaborating with actuarial teams on competitive pricing strategies, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in business management, mathematics, finance, actuarial science, economics, or a related analytics field, with a master’s degree preferred. The role expects 10+ years of relevant experience in P&C insurance or similar financial roles, strong knowledge of commercial lines P&C insurance products, and proven P&L management experience with ownership of lines of business on a countrywide scale. The ideal candidate will have technical proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and may have additional SaaS and SQL skills, along with in-depth understanding of underwriting rules, rating systems, and product development. Demonstrated leadership experience in team building and developing future leaders, plus excellent analytical, strategic, and communication skills focused on data-informed decision-making, are required.
