This role is focused on the strategic leadership and operational management of campaigns, marketing, channel management, and internal communications within a large, politically led local authority. The position requires reporting at a senior level and is responsible for ensuring that communications are clear, effective, politically aware, and outcomes-focused, particularly in the run-up to local elections. Key responsibilities include providing strategic leadership, leading the planning and delivery of high-impact multi-channel campaigns, and overseeing internal communications to ensure staff are informed, engaged, and supported through organizational change and key initiatives.

The successful candidate will act as a trusted senior communications adviser, working closely with elected members and senior officers in a politically sensitive environment. The role includes driving effective channel management, audience growth, and performance monitoring to ensure communications reach and resonate with target audiences. Additionally, the position involves leading and managing a communications team of up to eight people, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring delivery against agreed objectives. All activities must be outcomes-driven, with clear deliverables achieved at pace within a fast-moving interim environment.

Applicants should have significant experience operating at a senior management level within a local or central government communications environment. They must possess proven experience dealing with local politics, elected members, and politically sensitive issues. A strong background in strategic communications, campaign management, and channel development, with evidence of successful delivery, is essential. The candidate should be highly outcomes-focused, with the ability to set priorities, manage competing demands, and deliver to tight deadlines.
