The client is seeking a senior base metals trader to lead a new commercial team in Europe. The role will help deliver trading solutions focused on base metals across global markets, with responsibility for defining and driving commercial performance in a dynamic and volatile environment.
Key responsibilities include defining and executing the trading strategy for base metals such as copper, aluminium, zinc, and nickel, with full profit and loss accountability. The role will also lead, mentor, and develop traders, analysts, and operators to achieve commercial targets; drive business growth through new supply and customer relationships and expansion of trading flows; and identify market opportunities.
The senior trader will oversee risk exposure, ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory frameworks, and implement robust hedging strategies. Collaboration with operations, finance, logistics, and senior management will be expected to optimise trading performance and support broader business objectives. The client is seeking candidates with strong experience in physical trading of base metals, proven ability to manage and develop trading teams, deep knowledge of European and global base metals markets and supply chains, and a solid background in risk management including hedging, credit exposure, and compliance, along with strong negotiation and analytical skills.
