The client seeks an exceptional leader for the role of Group Director of Governance, Compliance and Legal Services. This position will help shape a developing model of tertiary education governance by simplifying complexity, strengthening organisational confidence, and building an integrated governance, compliance and legal service for the future.
In this role, you will shape the function, develop its people, and create a modern, proactive operating model that supports effective decision-making across The client’s group entities. You will serve as a principal adviser to the group’s Boards and senior leadership, providing independent judgement, constructive challenge, and clear practical guidance on significant organisational decisions, with standing involvement in executive leadership meetings.
You will lead multidisciplinary teams across governance, legal services, and executive support, strengthening internal capability and improving how services operate across organisational boundaries. The role will involve advising and enabling colleagues to engage effectively with governance and legal experts, translating complex regulatory and legal requirements into pragmatic solutions. The client is looking for a credible, emotionally intelligent, and highly organised leader with significant experience advising Boards and senior executives in a complex, regulated organisation; strong governance expertise and sound legal and regulatory judgement are required, along with a track record of developing professional services teams through change. A legal qualification is desirable but not essential, and experience in education may be advantageous.
