Description

The client is seeking a General Manager to lead day-to-day business performance and help advance the organization’s mission and vision. The role is expected to combine fiscal management, marketing, communications, human resources leadership, and disaster/issue resilience, with a continuous-improvement mindset and a holistic approach to operations. The General Manager will work to achieve revenue performance targets and may be required to work weekends and holidays to support business needs.

The General Manager will report to the President and partner with cross-functional teams across marketing, finance, food and beverage, IT, and sales support to deliver revenue and visitation goals. Responsibilities include overseeing key operational areas through the Operations Manager and Membership and Volunteer Coordinator, managing a team that includes more than 80 volunteers and approximately 8–12 part-time staff, and ensuring a healthy, productive, and safe working environment. The role also involves executing the strategic plan, managing budgets and deliverable timelines, contributing to a three-year business plan aimed at meeting profitability goals, and maintaining compliance with relevant museum regulations and practices while pursuing operational excellence.

In addition to internal leadership, the General Manager will focus on media relations and public awareness, fundraising and resource development, and strengthening community and stakeholder engagement. This includes enhancing connections with other not-for-profit organizations, building programming and events aligned with core operating objectives (including music and arts), improving a summer camp program that engages approximately 70 children per day, and supporting school trip growth (up to as many as 50 per year). The position will also develop annual budgets, grow paid visitation and associated revenues, increase profitability over the first three years, re-establish a retail offering aligned with exhibit content, and collaborate on a fundraising strategy targeting government, corporate, foundation, partnership, and individual donor support.
