the client is seeking a General Counsel to provide varied legal guidance to senior leadership and business stakeholders. This role will oversee legal and regulatory compliance across the organization, support operational integrity, and provide strategic legal advice on complex matters to help leadership make informed decisions.
Key responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, agreements, and other legal documents; managing and resolving disputes, including litigation and arbitration proceedings; ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations and standards; and developing and implementing policies designed to minimize legal risk. The General Counsel will also collaborate with external legal counsel and manage those relationships as needed.
The successful General Counsel should have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership. The role typically requires extensive knowledge of legal principles, procedures, and regulations within a global organization, along with strong negotiation and contract management skills, and proven ability to build and manage legal functions. The candidate should communicate confidently with diverse internal teams, provide strategic guidance to leadership, and have experience managing relationships with external legal counsel; prior shipping/maritime, industrial, or manufacturing experience may be preferred.
