The client is seeking a General Counsel with 12+ years of legal experience, including at least 5 years in-house at a consumer-packaged goods or food/beverage company. The ideal candidate will have expertise in IP licensing, contract law, and regulatory compliance, with experience managing major licensing relationships, preferably with entertainment brands. This role involves advising the executive team and Board of Directors on all legal matters impacting the business in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be a proactive and strategic business partner.
The General Counsel will oversee all legal functions for the client, including corporate governance, compliance, contracts, litigation, employment law, and regulatory affairs. They will ensure full compliance with federal and state regulations in the food and beverage industry, staying up-to-date on evolving requirements. The role also involves selecting, managing, and evaluating outside counsel, as well as monitoring new legislation and legal developments impacting the business. The General Counsel will provide training and seminars to disseminate relevant information to the organization.
In addition to legal and compliance leadership, the General Counsel will be responsible for structuring, negotiating, and managing licensing agreements with entertainment studios. They will provide counsel on intellectual property rights, collaborate with marketing and product teams to ensure compliance, and handle a range of commercial agreements. The role also involves managing risk by proactively identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risks, leading internal investigations, and developing company-wide policies on ethics and compliance.
