The client is seeking a General Counsel and Vice Chancellor for Legal, Audit, Risk and Compliance to serve as the university’s chief legal officer and an integral member of the cabinet. Reporting to the Chancellor, this leader will guide the institution through periods of growth and transformation by safeguarding legal interests, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and mitigating legal risks across the university’s educational, research, and clinical enterprise.
The role will partner with various campus and external offices and provide legal leadership across a broad range of matters, including contract law, bidding and purchasing regulations, employment law, civil rights affecting students and employees, copyright and intellectual property rights, immigration law, and regulations impacting academic research. The General Counsel will bring sound judgment and adaptability to balance risk management while advancing the client’s mission.
Qualifications and experience are expected to reflect the ability to lead complex legal and compliance functions at an institutional level, manage cross-functional stakeholders, and provide strategic legal guidance in a high-accountability environment.
