Description

The client is seeking a Director to lead a global arts philanthropy focused on advancing conservation, art history, and public engagement with the visual arts. The role will partner with institutional leaders and external collaborators worldwide to shape the future of grantmaking and to help bring collections, exhibitions, and knowledge to diverse audiences through strategic programs and partnerships. The Director will report to the President and CEO and work closely with other Program Directors and Vice Presidents.

Key responsibilities include providing vision and a strategic framework for the foundation’s activities; contributing to the development of Getty-wide strategies and initiatives; aligning foundation programs with broader organizational priorities; and establishing a grantmaking strategy and setting related funding priorities. The Director will oversee and guide the department’s grantmaking activities to ensure consistency with programmatic goals, lead, develop, evaluate, and mentor a team of professional and support staff, and determine staffing needs while recommending responsible use of resources.

The Director will also ensure appropriate oversight of contracts and the foundation’s budget, serve as a contributing member of the organization’s executive team, and participate in both strategic planning and operational execution of priorities. The role will establish trusted working partnerships with senior leadership and represent the client externally as appropriate to advance its mission and visibility. The preferred candidate will demonstrate leadership in grantmaking and partnership-driven work, with the ability to mentor teams, provide strategic direction, and manage organizational oversight responsibilities.
