The client is seeking an Executive Director to lead an online and mail-based harm reduction program that provides privacy-protected resources and support to people who face barriers to accessing in-person services. The work addresses urgent public health needs by expanding free access to harm reduction supplies, education, and overdose-prevention resources, with a focus on non-judgmental care and support for communities most affected by the overdose crisis and structural exclusion from healthcare. The Executive Director will help set the organization’s vision and strategic direction and guide efforts to deepen impact while leveraging an established operational model.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will lead a values-driven hybrid team and oversee strategy, culture, and operations. Key responsibilities include developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to diversify revenue across individual, institutional, and government funders; cultivating and stewarding relationships with current and prospective funders to build durable philanthropic support; and partnering with program staff to lead grant proposals and ensure mission alignment and accuracy in funder reporting. The role also includes managing external relationships and ensuring the organization has the capacity to meet its growth ambitions.
The client operates a hub-and-spoke affiliate model that coordinates free mail delivery of sterile syringes, naloxone, sharps containers, safer-use supplies, and overdose-prevention education to households through partner organizations. The Executive Director will be expected to expand national reach and strengthen the program’s ability to support people who may be underserved by existing public health infrastructure. The role is centered on mission-driven leadership at the intersection of public health, racial equity, and drug user rights, and will support continued delivery of harm reduction services and education at scale.
